The shopping scene in Thailand is as diverse and varied as can be found anywhere, with a vibrant mix of Eastern, Western and Asian cultures leading to products, goods and services from all cultures being readily available.
Pattaya is not overly blessed with book-shops. There are the usual countrywide chain stores to be found in the malls and department stores, stocking both international and local authors and all the latest titles; both in paper-back and hard cover editions. The books are usually printed in English, German and perhaps one or two other languages. There are two chains which only stock books printed in the Thai language, mostly by local authors but also some titles translated to Thai from the original text. There are many shops and stores, which sell second hand books, mainly in Thai language but many have used paperbacks in a variety of languages, and these can be very reasonably priced as compared to purchasing the original version from the main bookstore. One shop in Soi Buakhao is an exchange book shop and buys and sells the books, only dealing in used books by international authors. The titles are both varied and in a variety of languages.
Pattaya has one public library located in North Pattaya; however, the stock is limited and almost exclusively in Thai language.
