There are many motorcycle rental agencies in Pattaya run by Pattaya based Thai and expatriate entrepreneurs. Most hotels and guesthouses also offer motorbike for rent to guests, either owning a fleet of motorcycles or arranging the rental through an outside company. No motorcycle rental will include insurance, despite claims by the operator, as the insurance companies simply will not insure a motorcycle in Thailand. Therefore beware the fine print in the contract with the smaller Thai business as it may have hidden additional liabilities for you in the event of an accident or damage to the cycle, even if it not your fault. If the motorbike is stolen you are responsible for replacement value, so ask about this before signing any contract. If you take the crash helmet from the rental company, be sure to establish the replacement value in the contract. The operator usually provides a cheap model, if you lose it they may try to claim a high replacement value. If any doubts arise, it may be better to rent your motorbike from an established large operator, paying a premium price but having peace of mind in the event that something unexpected occurs, knowing that no unexpected additional costs will materialize.
